Delivery Irony

File this under the things-I-never-understood category:

A delivery charge for stamps.

I mean, the post office guy comes to my apartment building every day with our without something for me.  So, if I want to buy stamps online from the USPS (yes, it's .com; no, .gov doesn't work--another mystery), why are you going to charge me extra for something you're going to do anyway?

Now, if you want to add a handling charge, we can talk.  But delivery?

Even UPS gives its customers its mailer label holders out for free on their next time out!

Bible Search by Chapter

To all the Bible software and Web site developers in the room:

Is there anywhere one can search by chapter, and not just by verse?

While the verse is a natural unit for searching, I see no reason why it must by the only one.

Search My Maps

It seems adapting search to different information that users make available eludes Google Maps.

If I were to think that me saving locations on Google Maps would make it easier to search for them in the future, I would be wrong.

Dear Google,

Please index my saved locations for showing up in the search results, at least on the Google Maps search pane.

Thanks,
Tim

No Google Related Searches?

Is Google really going to cede the Related Searches feature to Ask.com?

Seriously, Google Sets is the oldest non-graduate of Google Labs, and yet it has not been added to the main search results page.  It's mystifying.

Gmail Labs: Scheduled Emails

To our wonderful friends who make all the cool toys in Gmail Labs, a suggested feature for you.

I would like to be able to delay the sending of my emails.

There are many reasons why this is useful:
    • A person on one side of the conversation may need or have more of a life than the person on the other side.
    • An email conversation topic may be heated, and the people involved may just need some time.
    • Outlook and Exchange Server have been able to do this for years.
    • Blogger can delay posts going up, so shouldn't Gmail be able to delay emails going out?
P.S. This post was written and scheduled for posting 12/28/2008.

    Blogger Trends

Blogger founder Evan Williams had a list of suggestions for Blogger.

I would add one more: Blogger Trends.

Show what people are blogging about on Blogger, and have some links.  Set up an RSS feed.  Give it a Twitter account like Google Hot Trends has.

    Publisher Viewer Needed

    Dear Microsoft,

While the options you list for viewing Publisher files will technically work, it would still do much to help your product to have a Publisher Viewer just as you have for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Office applications.

    Thanks,
    Tim
